  • 51 Old Airport Rd

Last Saturday, Me + My baby decided to use our "Makansutra" Bible to explore the UNKNOWN food places
This time we explored 51 Old Airport Rd

I have always passed through this Hawker on the way to Bugis and there are times where I want to try them out
I had seen many Show promoting the food stalls in Old Airport and it looked REALLY Tempting~
So last Saturday was the day that I finally explore the Old Airport.

We arrived there quite late in the afternoon about 3pm and some of the stalls were "ON BREAK"
Some of the stalls were closed and would not be open until 5pm.
There is a lot of Variety there and it ranges from Nyonya Kue to Italian Food.
I believe you can find something that suits you there... :D

After Browsing much while holding our "BIBLE", Here it goes:

    Appetizers 1: OTAH

    Lee Wee Brothers'
    #01-179 (Open: 10am - 9pm, Close on Tue)
They sells Nasi lemak, Otah(Fish, Prawn, Cuttlefish, Squid, Crab, Non-Spicy, etc..) & Few other small appetizers.
We purchased Crab, Prawn and Fish Otah (We Indonesian called them Otak2)
If you are thinking why the Otak2 look so small? Yes, Indeed they are smaller than normal Nyonya Size
But their Ingredients are very Concentrated & Generous.. Lot's of whole prawns & pieces of Crab.
The price ranges from 70 - 90 cents which I think quite a reasonable price.
Honestly, I still prefer traditional Nyonya Otah2 in Roxy Square.. ( I will be touching more on this in my next blog)

    IMG00079-20091107-1600

    Appetizers 2: CURRY PUFF

    Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff
    #01-126 (Open: 9am-9pm)

They sell 4 Curry flavors, but we decided to give 2 most interesting flavor to try
We tried Curry Puff and Black Pepper Puff
The Crust are slightly different from any other Curry puff as you can see from the picture on the left
Upside: They have lots of layers which add the crispiness, Fresh from the oven, tender meat and not so solidified Gravy.
Downs: It's Pretty messy every time you take a bite as all the layers will start coming off. The Curry and Black Pepper is way too spicy for me. Moreover, as it is fresh from the oven, It is slightly oily..
Personally I would prefer the A1 Curry Puff.

    IMG00086-20091107-1624  IMG00085-20091107-1621

Enough of Appetizers, time for some Main Course

    Main: Crocodile meat Spring Onion

Yes It is crocodile meat... I have no idea which stall is this as My Baby just randomly bought it.
As most of our stalls that we wanted to try were either Close or On Break.

Surprisingly they were nice, chewy and Tender.. But I am not a fan of it.
The last time I had Crocodile meat was Deep Fried and it was in Semarang Rd, Medan.
If you are Adventurous in your taste buds.. Do try them :D

    IMG00084-20091107-1610

My Main: Braise Pork in Preservative Vegetables

    Mr. Cook
    #01-130 (10.30 - 10.30pm, Close on Alt Thrus)
    Famous for their Herbal Chicken

Not so Bad~ $6 for a Claypot. This is actually the size of main.. but I ate it alone.
But not enough Spices on it.. If they put more spices in it.. I believe it will taste better..
But I still like it... except the oily part of the Meat.. :p

    IMG00077-20091107-1559

Please feel free to comment anything and hope that you will try out the food there.
    It is pretty interesting..
51 Old Airport Rd is only Reachable by Bus
    Bus No. 10,16,30,31,32,33,401

Nearest and most Convenient MRT: Kallang
Take bus no. 32,22 from Kallang MRT to 51 Old Airport.

    Bangkok Trip 31/10 - 2/11

Bangkok Trip is finally here.. I had been waiting for it for 2 months as we booked the Hotels and flight quite early.
Of course we booked it during Jestar Promotional period.. so our flight 2 way is about $150++/person
We stayed at Baiyoke Boutique Hotel in Pratunam area - Wholesale Shopping area
Check out the Hotel => Baiyoke Boutique Hotel

Our flight is 11.15am and we arrived in Airport about 9am
And to my surprise, Terminal 1 was Super crowded and it looked very messy
Look at the picture below... that is bloody a lot of people early in the morning....
Well, maybe It's Saturday and it's end of year.. so what time is it? *singing to Tiger Beer tune*
It's Holiday time... *ehem..  a bit awkward but.. just feel like doing that :p

4 Pretty ladies waiting at the Gate... 4 Ladies 2 Guys...
Boys... be ready... prepare your legs to satisfy our Shopping Cravings..
For the whole month of October, I stopped shopping and kept reminding myself that Bangkok was around the corner!!!
I only shopped for my Sister Wedding Stuff in October as I dun want to be last minute.
So YES.. I am expecting myself to buy A LOT OF THINGS...!!!

That was my Flight.. Small but Steady~ Similar capacity for the flight back to Medan.

I was so eager for us to land in Bangkok...~

    Welcome to BANGKOK...
The airport is similar to KL airport.. I am very impressed with it!
From what I heard, Even Jakarta Airport is not THIS well-maintained and beautifully designed..
Personally, I have not been to Jakarta Airport.. So I would have no idea..
But I will be in Jakarta FOR THE FIRST TIME.. on 20th November 2009 *LOL*
Now my Friends will not be able to tease me for not even once been to my OWN CAPITAL..

Our Hotel Room... Nicely maintained and quite clean.. But The Walls are Really thin.
So you can hear what your Neighbors are Up to.. *LOL*

Our Hotel is just a walking distance to Platinum Mall (Wholesale Shopping Mall)
But to reach there, we have to pass thro some Market.
If you see the pictures below, you will understand why I said it is a MARKET.

However, it is not Smelly not Soggy.. AMAZING~
I will have no idea when it is raining, but when I was there.. They were not.

If you go to my Hometown Market (Pasar Rame).. IT IS BLOODY SMELLY AND SOGGY..
Rain or Shine, Day and Night....
If you are there everyday.. I think in the long term, you will have a Lung Cancer.. NO KIDDING!

Fooh~ After all of that Fighting thro the crowd.. Finally we are here..
I was really2 excited looking at the size of the Mall and the Content...

Comment on the Traffic and Weather.
The traffic was not as bad as I imagined... I believe Jakarta is WORSE than this.
And i think they are neater than Medan Traffic... So you can imagine how bad Medan Traffic is.
Of course you cannot compare it with Singapore Traffic.. *LOL*

Weather: I believed from my experience, KL is even worst than Bangkok
KL sun is scorching and the pollution makes it worst.
Bangkok was not that bad.. especially at night...
Personally, I felt safer in Bangkok than KL.

This is Platinum Food court... very very crowded on Saturday.
and There was a lot of tourist around as well :)
On the Right: you will need this card to purchase food there...
Basically to purchase your meals in Mall's Food Court, you will need to buy Card/ coupon.
So no real money involve here, if you have excess, it is refundable.
This system reminds me of Medan Food court..
BUT... some of the Stall accept Money as well.. so What is the purpose of this System?

    Now My Favourite part... SHOPPING...
Platinum mall Consist of 6 Levels (start from B1).
They have... TOO many shops.. and each shop sells different type of clothes.
So you will definitely find something for yourself there.
The problem is 98% of the Shops there are dedicated to LADIES.
The clothing for Men are very limited and mostly are Shirt and Plain Polo.

They are Beyond Cheap if you compare to Singapore Price.
I bought one Dress Similar to those I bought in Far East and the comparison was 1:5
So.. if you have a little budget for Flight and Hotel..
and You are itching for Shopping spree without feeling Guilty...
    Bangkok IS THE PLACE..

My shopping bag is mostly filled with Accessories..
Lots of Earrings, 2 Fancy Tshirts, 1 dress and 1 pump.
    I am VERY VERY satisfied...
Tempted now? You should... especially for you Shopaholic...

Below it the picture of the Accessories Row in Platinum Mall
There is at least 20 Rows of them...
Photography is not allowed here, so I can only take a few :p
Imagine you are there with 5 rows x 3 section x 6 floors = 90 ROWS OF HEAVENLY SHOPPING!!
*ehem* ok.. I will stop bragging... you should experience it yourself..

On our 1st day in Bangkok, We went to see the Ladyboy Calypso @ Asia Hotel @ 8.15 pm
Only  me and my Baby went to see.. the other decided to go to Night market.. :D
We took Tuk Tuk to Asia Hotel and it is not that Far away..
It was really fun riding on Tuk Tuk.. and HELL THEY RIDE REALLY FAST!!

Finally Bangkok Calypso Ladyboy Show @ Asia Hotel
Price BHT 600 (Without Dinner and Transfer)

They are unbelievable pretty!! imagine if you see one of them on the road/ beach walking.
On a Glimpse you will be stunned.. but if you really really look at them.. MAYBE you can spot SOME HINT...
In Bangkok, Ladyboy is very common. They work everywhere...
As receptionist, Shop attendant.. etc.. so it is not that TABOO

Below they are imitating the WonderGirls - Nobody Video Clip.
On the Right: Some of you might aware that they are imitating this group of Thai School boys who imitate Wondergirls and post in on Youtube.
    Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=031N31B4EvM
Check it out... It is an eyebrow raising Video..

See how Sexy and Smooth they skin look from here?
OMG.... this is a THREAT TO US (Women...)

Ehem.. this were REAL MEN... no Lady2Boy...
and YES THEY ARE IN BIKINI~OMG...
Anyway.. I think Picture speaks more than words... so Enjoy my Pictures

LadyBoy and Men... (Still cannot believe that they are SO PRETTY!!!)
And yes they are TALL... looks like MODEL... How nice

After the LadyBoy show, we took a stroll along the SIAM station for some entertainment as recommended by Tailor.
But we ended up with nothing and only Street food and Night shopping.
So we thought.. Oh well, let's try some street food and I am crossing my finger that I would not get Diarrhea ( and I did not!)

Right: Look at that CHILLI... Scary~

Below is A and Tuk2 Driver..
A makes the Tuk2 looks so Small... hahaha...

    Day 2 @ Bangkok

We had Bfast on the 10th Floor and I am pretty please with what I see and taste.
    It is a half-American half-Thai Style Breakfast.

Left:You can get Fresh Sunny Side up, Omelette and Thai Style Soup Noodle
I love the Soup Noodle.. It may look plain but the Soup is Very Tasty~

View from outside the Breakfast Banquet Hall.
If you look beside the Train Station, you can see A Pile of Trash... C'mon Squint your eyes!

Just some random pictures in the Breakfast hall :)

In the Afternoon after B'Fast, we were suppose to go to Grand Palace and Floating Market.
But we pushed the Grand Palace to the last day and canceled the Floating Market.

So we did more Shopping and went to have some Seafood in Siam.
But the Seafood Restaurant will not be open until 4pm
Thus, we visited MBK for some Traditional snacks and Paragon for the Supermarket.
Some of my Friends went to Paragon Siam for the Department Store Items.
It is REALLY HUGE... the department Store alone is as big as half of VivoCity.
It is that big!! and the Supermarket is HEAVEN~
You can find all sort of things there, and is it really fresh.
They even have a Mini Restaurant for the Gourmet Food.

After Shopping, we had some Thai food beside the Supermarket.
The food is So So only and that is THE ONLY THAI resto in Siam Paragon B1 area
Siam Paragon has a lot Japanese Restaurant and Small Food Stall.
I think Thailand is very big on these Jap and Korean Culture.

Look what we had from the Supermarket and MBK...
Lots of Instant Noodle, Unique Drinks, Sauces, Durian Snacks, Cuttlefish snack etc..
The Instant noodle that I had is VERY SPICY.. and I Don't really like it.
I still Prefer INDOMIE or Mie Sedap *LOL*
    Really CINTA INDONESIA....

Day 3 - Grand Palace then Airport

View taken from the Entrance of Grand Palace

As I walked around observing the Temples and the statues around the Grand Palace
I notice that Thailand Buddhism is a mixed of Taoism, Buddha and Hinduism.
    Here are my reason:
    1. Taoism: they have Guan Yu, 2 Lion infront of the doors (maybe this is for Feng Shui), and some other Defities that is found in Toaism Temple
    2. Hinduism: They have Ganesha, Hanuman, and story written on the walls are Hinduism Story.

    What do you think?!

After Grand Palace, we went to Collect A Suit in Asia Hotel and The Tailor recommended this Thai-Spanish Restaurant.
and FINALLY I found a GOOD THAI RESTAURANT...
They are beyond words to describe.. and I ate A lot..
Not as much as you guys expected.. but more than normal *LOL*

There is 8 of us and Here are out Luggage and hand Carry.. Not that bad huh?!

I really enjoyed my time in Bangkok and I maybe looking forward to come back
Especially when the Ticket is CHEAP... :D :D
So.. That's ALL FOLKS... Sawadeka... :D
Honestly, I am tired writing such a long Blog and I am running out of ideas what to add..

Mezza 9 + Liese Bubble Hair Color

     Liese Bubble Hair Color

Last 2 week on 17 October 2009 ( Deepavali Day), T was kind enough to come to my house to dye my hair.
I have to BOOK her 2 weeks before coz these days she is very busy with her badminton.
Why I let her dye my hair?
Coz she dyed Big M hair before using the same Product - Liese Bubble Hair Color -
and it turns out to be GOOD, cheap and easily acquired from Watson's for $19.90.

Usually I dyed my hair once in 3 months and they cost $60-80 depends on the length of my hair.
But now I can Dye them for $19.90 + Homecook Dinner (as I am treating Tere makan :D)

Let me show you the result now:
This is me beginning of October (see my hair.. you can see the black patch :p)

This is me One and a half week after...
I actually expect it to be darker like brunette but I like this colour as well :D
I am using the Chestnut Brown shade
DO check out the Website... - Liese Bubble Hair Color -

But when I really look at this picture... why do my hair have 2 colour tone?! OMG!!!!
Or it is just the Camera?!

    Mezza 9 @ Hyatt Hotel

Last Saturday, Me + Baby went to have a nice Dinner @ Mezza9 Hyatt hotel
    Grand Hyatt Singapore
    10 Scotts Road
    ,
    Singapore, Republic of Singapore 228211

    Tel: +65 6738 1234    Fax: +65 6732 1696
    Email: singapore.grand@hyatt.com

This is the Entrance to Mezza9 and this is the 1st time in Mezza9
I am amaze with the interior.. very Fusion and Open kitchen.
You can see the cooks and even pat them on their back.

At the center end of this Picture, There lies the food storage for the restaurant.
You can find onions, vegetables and other spices line up in the the rack.
I found it quite interesting and unique, that is why I took a picture of it.

One down thing about mezza9 is the MENU
They are printed on yellow slightly thicker than normal paper and fancy alignment
Compile together, punch at the top left hand corner and THAT'S IT!!
When I sat there.. I was thinking to myself.. is this really the MENU?
In such a fancy restaurant.. why don't they invest a little bit in their menu..
Isn't that one of the most important thing in Restaurant?

Anyway... We ordered Some Dinner Set :D
    Dinner set include:
    Starter
    Appetizer
    Main
    Tea/Coffee
    Dessert
    Price @ $69++
Click Here for the Full Menu - Dinner Set Menu -

My Baby reading the Menu Carefully~
Hmm... What should I order? Too many to choose from..

Starter on the House: White Bread with Capsicum + Tomato Dipping.
It has a strong Capsicum flavour but the Tomato add the sourness and sweetness to the dipping.

Appetizers: Crab Cakes with Remoulade Sauce
I LOVE THIS~ made up of real CRAB and not from those crab stick thingie..
They are no Fishy smell and it just melt in your mouth.. PERFECT!!

Main: charcoal grilled king salmon, spinach, mashed potatoes and horseradish cream
I am not a fan of Salmon.. so I am sure you figure out that this is DEFINITELY not mine~

I go for wood roasted bratwurst, fried onions and mashed potatoes
In my Opinion the Wurst are just OK.. I prefer those on B2 Takashimaya Dept Store
For me the Wurst it too Porky~ and not Dry and Crunchy enough.
But according to my Baby, he Loved it.. Experience it yourself..

After the dinner, it is Tea time and cooling down your stomach before dessert and enjoy the Ambiance

They give you warm milk + Sugar Cubes
I always find Sugar Cubes are Cute :D and reminds me of London and Ireland :D

Here is goes... My Crepes: chocolate banana crepes with salted caramel ice cream
Nyam2 Very nice and this is what I call INDULGENCE~

That is all for my Food journey.. My next Trip will be Bangkok.. I will be there in 2 days time..
    Soooo excited~
I apologised if I am really2 bad at Blogging.. but I am trying here..
I am squeezing my brains out for Vocabulary trying to be more Creative :p~
